Never had an idea, that RB-Nr. are so interesting (and so mysterious until today)

Sure, there will be no answer to my question , but please keep them coming.........there is something to learn !

        Hi Gebirgsjager77

Is it too much asking for a peek at the pouch!! You know I collect pouches btw is there a location too in addition.

          RBNr

I have a pair of 44 dated Reitstiefel with the number 0/0750/0367, the soles of which are stamped with the name "Mercedes". So far the only Mercedes boot maker that I can find through Google is in Texas. who has been in business since 1975. So a little late, and wrong continent.

Gene, there was a Mercedes Schufabriken A.G. operated in Berlin at Friederichstr. 61 in Berlin W8 according to a Berlin 1941 phone book. So perhaps there was another factory in a different city or 0/0750/xxxx was also the Kreis code which included part of Berlin.

Gebirgsjager 77 reported a 0/0251/0111 as indicating Fa.W. Zahn in Berlin. I found listed in the phone book "Werner Zahn Metall-u.-Leder-Verarbeitung" at an address in Charlottenberg in Berlin. So 0251 indicates a Kreis that included a portion of Berlin with Charlottenberg.

              HI

As I have indicated before I would love to solve the riddle about the deciphering of the RB. Nr. codes! But as you just say! Berlin was suggested before by some to bear the id. number of /0250/ but do we know something about how many "Kreises" Berlin was split into if more than one??

I can only relate what I found as source information from the period phone book. The two names were listed in the city of Berlin. I had always read that Berlin was considered a Stadtkreis. A county and city within itself. But we have no way of knowing whether the Mercedes Company had other factories or what. I know that Berlin was divided into several NSDAP Kreis units. But that was party, not governmental. I will continue the search for a listing of Kreises.

                  Hi JoeW

Thanks for the reply and if something pop's up let me know about it. BTW do you or somebody else know a link to a wartime Berlin map where streets and "stadtteile" is shown. I have tried many sources without luck.

                  Thanks in advance

Kim, I am afraid I don't know of an easy solution to your question on the web. I only know of printed matter: "After the Battle" Publications produces an excellent reproduction British Intelligence map of wartime Berlin with all cities and streets as well as public buildings identified. I have that plus various map selections I have collected over the years.

Thanks for the info on the possible Berlin maker of my boots, Joe!

This stuff is no Enigma code, and yet 60 years after the war, we're still nowhere close to solving the full puzzle! It would seem to me that while the main list may be lost, the individual contractors must have kept some record of the codes that they had used. Has anyone ever tried to survey some war time contractors who are still operating today to see if they can dig up this information? Or have people who had first- or second-hand access to this type of info all disappeared as well? That would be quite a bummer, and mildly surprising ...

                          cheers,
                          Gene T

                            Dual Maker Marked Bayonet Frog

                            John et al,

Regarding the bayonet frogs you may be thinking of this one I picked up and reported to the BCN a few years ago. AC310 frog marked with BOTH Stolla-Wien and RBN 0/1001/0045. (W. H. Stolla's Sohne, K. & A. Stoilla-Wien also used the three letter code cgu.) Before he passed Anthony Carter had requested pics of the markings which I provided. He was going to include in the two volume edged weapons maker's book that was in progress.

                              Hi Lance

Thanks a lot for the reply thats exactly what I have looked and hoped for in the quest for solving the RB. Nr. riddle. Every time a collector find and announced a piece of evidence like that here; we have learned some more.

                                RBNr on Weyersberg Gravity Knives

                                Guys,

From a previous post in this thread - "0/0561/0020 Paul Weyersberg (this is on gravity knives and depending on what type the number goes 0/0561/0018 0/0561/0019 0/0561/0020)"

I think we need to be cautious in assuming that these codes verify Paul Weyersburg production since they could be the RBNr for another maker of subcontracted parts. As much research (Johnson, et al) has shown even the largest edged weapon firms in Solingen utilized subcontractors.

                                My thoughts only.......
