German shovel REX

Hi there, hereafter a new found. Straight shovel marked "REX".. but no date??
Was it an early German WWII standard shovel. Thanks Jack

True WWII german shovels are spot welded with a folded lower rim. I think this is a post war shovel.

Or very early pre war as pre war shovels ( for example I WW and Reichswehr ) were riveted.

I really, really doubt on the post war shovel were set a signature with Friedrich II von Hohenzollern. Am I right?

The East Germany try to reuse the image of Fr II in the 70's.
But here, the riveted parts looks more like post WW2. After it's was more common to weld the metal parts.

Pre WWII was riveted, but since my comment was about WARtime shovels, your comment is not of any purpose

Gloss black paint plus style makes me think of postwar origin.
But just my opinion.

For sure it's not a shovel from seventees. You've written the East Germany tried to reuse the image of F II. Of course for Ulbricht and Honecker propaganda purposes. But I don't think they use shovels for it

German shovel REX

Hi there, thank you for your help. I am disappointed that no one has seen some before... It can not be civilian considering its size (military size). Besides size that is identical to the wel known welded shovel. REX is definitely a German manufacturer .. probably before WWII. It's funny when you are doing some research .. to find copies and people looking to imitate the logo "REX" or to write REX 44 on the handle. It must has been famous maker some day! No hurry to find out. All the bst. Jacques

Looks closer to WW1 models, especially the band around the handle, the "unfolded" ears, and way the rear metal part (that is riveted to the shovel head) is nicely beveled. My 1909 Swiss version attached. Yours looks to have been repainted.

Hi Mike, thanks for your pictures. Your Swiss model is slightly different than mine. I just know that my REX is probably Belgium made from 1WW!! Maybe it has some value??? All the bst. Jack
