Thanks Willem for the confirmation. They are identical and un-issued indeed.

I'm not trying to defend my pouch, if it's post-war, that's fine by me. But I feel in my bones that this mine is earlier made ( maybe even wartime), and if we knew the exact purpose of it, that would help a lot!

Could you post a picture of the back of one of yours?

The ones Willem has posted are those Viktor is referring too...post-war made indeed, no doubt about that.

Guy's the medic pouch is not WW2, it's East German. On my travels to Berlin several times a year I see these more than often on the flea markets with other EG militaria.

I take a little interest in medical related items being as I was an army medic for 11 years..so they always catch my eye Not only that I collect East German militaria too.

Member uscob will vouch for these too, he has several of them along with...you name it DDR wares.

Thanks Marcus for the confirmation...It will probably end on the e-stand

What was the original purpose of it?

                Cheers

You know I don't know Jan It would have been good for carrying morphine injections....we need to get a guy called Dag on the Commie forum to take a look, he's an ex EG soldier he may just know ? Or even the guy I mention uscob aka Nic.

Hello All, I've seen these pouches in a few early East German photos and here is one I found showing a late 50's mortar crew, the guy on the left has one of these pouches, it could be for optics, but it looks just the right size for a PPSh 41 drum mag!!!?? the guy on the right has a soviet style mag pouch....
