In period photographs the most common type of German motorcycle goggle seems to be the ‘rectangular’ curved type, similar to the 1930’s US Cesco ‘Wide Vision’ goggle.
However, this type of German goggle seems to rarely come up for sale these days and when they are there does not seem to be much interest in them, unlike the small Leitz types (non-Luftwaffe), which seem to appear two to three times more often, but sell for 5 to 10 times more.
Is this because the rectangular pattern is similar to the Cesco goggles so people are wary of them and the fact that there are reproduction ‘Richthofen’ goggles around, or because they were produced pre and post war so might not be 'period'?
Any information on the German rectangular goggles would most appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Steve
