    ammo pouches

    Hi everyone,

I have a set of chocolate brown ammo pouches (same date 1937 and manufacturer). One of the front straps has a repair (black), wartime I'm quessing. What is the price range for a set like this?

    Thanks
    Tony

      Hi Tony,

Very nice early, pair which are harder to come by these days, especially in that condition .
Because of the same markings, it's more attractive to certain collectors. About the same markings, it is in my believe that soldiers were mostly equiped with pouches from different makers/years. IMO, when they passed the quartermaster, they just got two of these out of a supplie-box. The chance to get a identical pair was simply coincedence (sp?). They had other things to worry about then getting a matched pair

I would give 100 € for a matched early pair in good condition, but note this is a general "non-dealer price" in Europe. Until some years back, I bought mine for 20-25 €/pouch on local shows, but they have somewhat increased in value, as everything, although there're still plenty of them.

It's like bayo's, a matched one will bring up more, although during the war, most of them weren't at all, due to loss, damage,etc...

      Cheers

        pouches

        Hi Jan,

Thanks for your input and comments about the pouches.
Had a incling they were around that range. I agree with you on the prices, they have gone up considerably.

        Regards,
        Tony

          Very nice pair Tony!

I was lucky to pick up a pair recently, although not a matched pair, they are the same construction style so you can't tell until you look side by side from the back. The pouches are very minty and dated 1938, and I got them along with a belt dated 1935 for $100.
