Can anybody tell me more about this gasmask? I'm sure it's for civilian use, with an ersatz canister. All the ink stamps are blurred and faded. The eye pieces remind me of a German WWI mask. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

French ANP-31 military gas mask from the 1930's. I does not belong with the cardboard cannister as those were intended for the civilian TC38. The ANP-31 and TC38 however are very close in terms of design but the TC38 didn't have the reinforced eyeglasses like your specimen.
The cannister is somewhat rare as most have been perished or thrown away in the years after the war. But this setup is a mix-match. -
