The makers mark. I picked up a few of these and there are two different maker marks(they are all marked).

Hey Michael,

No it's German allright. The maker mark reads J.M. ECKART ULM aD. 1942.

I have one just like it... including the markings

did it have a special use, due to its size and shape.
