Tropical frog, strapless

I'm confused: some say the retaining strapless frog is 'early,' others that ones w/o it have simply had it cut off. who's tight? and is this one real? thanks much

By the way the frog strap was very carefully cut off, looks t/b long ago...

You just answered for your own question ; standart ( mid war ) tropical frog with retaining strap cut off - nothing more. The same with belt ; standart ( mid war ) tropical belt with some early model parts ( tongue ).

It's made without the retaining strap. A known variation.

thanks much len - but why then is there a bulge between the facing and backing and a short length of 'strap' lodged in there? some kind of support piece? dw

Not so. It's a known variant noted by Anthony Carter in his book on bayonet frogs. I have one in my collection and know of others. Without a closer exam I don't know if inimicus frog is one of these but they do exist.

most interesting! ok here's mine - obv. it had a strap at one time. it almost looks factory or quartermaster-cut. by the way, considering the varieties of AK webgear we shouldnt be concerned about the 2 different stitch patterns or materials, right? thanks again, all.

This photos are not realy any kind of trade...

i own serval frogs without straps... all were removed.

often very good by cutting the stittching on the inside.... you can recognize them when see that the stiching is close at the place were the straps was bevore.

only this foto can be a trade.
