    German Map Cases

    Hello everyone,
I seem to be having a problem here, I saw this on ebay and started to question if the one I have is also a 'postwar' model. Have a look at the auction:

    Thanks Michael

I will post photos of mine tonight.

            Hi Michael
The one from Ebay is clearly stamped with Nato number so as the seller says Postwar made.
Regarding the map case on your picture that is also a postwar map case!
I can't say what periode it belongs to for sure but my guess is in the late 50'ties early 60'ties the small pockets isn't the correct type and there is too many differences for being a wartime map case.

Looks like a February 1958 date. Those numbers look like NATO numbers.

                  Hi Michael

What denotes the postwar from the pre and wartime map cases is mainly the number of "pockets" and some minor differences on the inside construction in the map case. This map case type is very similar to the original but with one pocket too much to the right side. This type is "West" German made and there is map cases with almost the same look but "East" German made mainly made of black leather.
Later on was this type abandoned in favour to short "flap" map cases but during the war more types or variants are known.

                  Regards
                  Kim

                        Hi MGN
Try to look at this Ebay "Kartentasche" http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...149826101&rd=1 looks great but IMHO pre war one Pouch too much in the right corner. As an answer to severel questions regarding the differences war time and prewar.
