    Help identifying some kind of moratr storage box.

    I already posted this in the firearms forum, but might as well try here as well. I found these on the site of a german mortar, so I suspect these must be the remains of the tops and bottoms of mortar carying boxes. They seem similar to what US ones would look like, exept there is no writting on them.
    Did the germans use cardboard boxes with only tops and bottoms made of metal? I found about 40 of these, all identical.

    Yes, the germans used cardboard containers with steel lids.
    But the lids looked completely different from the ones you've found.

      Can someone post a picture of these german cardboard boxes. For know the ones I found look neither german, nor US... Strange. Maybe the germans were using a captured italian, or an other countries mortar? I found mauser ammo, and other WW2 things with these things, so they must be WW2...
