Ritter aluminium unusual mess kit (?)

Gentlemen,

I've received this aluminium item and wonder, what is this. Marked "Ritter aluminium", . The upper part is unfortunately missing. When I look at it, I think of a field mess kit. It has no army markings, so may be civil. Details remind me of German mess kits (especially those 3 rivets). Any ideas or comments? :-)

It is a private purchase bread container, although you could put anything you wanted to in them.

Thanks for the reply, however I'm a bit surprised, as this item seems for me to be too small for a bread. Its measurements are 16x12x6 cm.

Yes that about right, its not meant for a full loaf just the daily ration amount.
