Well to call my A-frame very bad .....

No seriously, I still believe in the originality of my frame. There might be some difference in manufacturing, but I wouldn't dismiss it as bad. I mean, just because the rivet runs through your entire frame, it doesn't mean it's post war production or something...

I have shown the frame to different militaria dealers / collectors and they all agree that it was original....

What I would like to know is how many A-frame producers were there ? Has anybody got a clue ?

btw, I know A-frames are expensive, but let's not get paranoia about them. I mean, I own 6 different kind of bread bags, and not one of them is the same, compare two back packs, and I asure you they are not the same.... I just write this down to get things a little bit in perspective, and maybe we can skip our psychotherapy michael

btw, it's a shame we can't openly discuss the pro's and cons just because there are fakers around , makes me sick...... thank God there are also decent people out there

Hi Mike - No worries. With most of my collection I am very comfortable. This is one item that I never got that "feeling" with. It came off the E-stand from a member about 3 years ago atually. No one said anything negative at the time when it was on the E-stand. Not as much expertise though back then. Here is the stiffener.

It is tough to tell what it is. Feels like paper, but looks like leather. To be honest, the straps I have never seen on another A frame to include repros, so I am not sure what you are talking about. There is a manufacturers mark as well on them. I have never seen that. I won't post here to avoid giving fakers anything more.

It is funny, I like my straps and don't like yours. They look placed on the pack.Mine look and feel like they were made for this A frame and not just a common equipment strap. The leather at the top matches, not common also with fakes.

Mike - I checked, it looks to be leather stiffener. On the backside of the frame, there is vertical seam" "flaw" in the material. I thought that used to good sign seen in original webbing.

I GIVE UP ON THESE! Not like a canteen for sure.

                Hi,
came back to Tom's a-frame that i judge original and without problems: could you post some detailled shots of some strategic parts (f.ex. maker stamp, both rivets, maker marks in the fittings, leather straps, rear body etc) of it?
I need to compare our a-frame that i consider made of the same manufacturer (infact it seems the same maker's mark!)
                Greetings,
                Alex
PS: i believe to Manny's story but my a-frame has every parts original and it hasn't sign of parts reapplied!

                  Alex,
you can do what you want with your money, but while I like some of the A-frames posted here I don't like your the least! You've PM me and Mike asking for opions and you've got them, please don't be offended but if you could be able to tell a good piece from a bad one(I'm not talking about your A-frame here mind you!) in the first place there wouldn't be any need to do that, even if we're always more than happy to help, hoping to be helped in return in fields we're not very much into!
If you're so cocksure your A-frame's parts are all original and no sign of "re-building" why you're struggling to get an opinion?Yes,they were produced by many makers but the criterias were stricts and had to be followed literally to the letter till the very last day of the war, no matter the shortage of goods or the use of scraps!
Me I set my mind on "all-canvas" A-frames and I've got my goos reasons, even if I've seen many original "mixed-media" ones.I won't indulge into description here because a)I don't want to give clues anymore, exactly like many many important collectors here who are known to have HUGE collections still they don't post a single picture nor give a tip for the life of them (me boor-lousy-gollegtor post pics at least !) and b) because I want to call myself out to avoid infringing "a"!
In my opinion your A-frame is a "re-make" at least that's what I see from the pictures you've posted and read carefully what Kuli writes in his own posts for the guy's one of the most"eagle-eyed" of the bunch !
There's a German wholesale dealer selling un-finished WW2 German equipments found in Western Europe (mainly in the Czech Republic,Hungary and a few former Soviet States) but if you don't buy at least 50/100 pieces need not apply!Un-finished A-frames and their parts have been around for the past 5/6 years and none of them had the straps for the shelter quarter nor the latter were available whatsoever.Hooks for the Y-straps are available by the thousands in any conceivable condition, not so the rivets holding the zelt straps.Internal stiffeners can be easily obtained from un-finished rucksacks and "ponies" and long gone are the times of pieces of steel saws and stuff!
I'm happy you feel comfortable with your frame, but I wouldn't let it in my collection, at least judging by your pictures...I'm more than happy to stay with my 8 "all-canvas" ones, which I could post here in any detail just to compare, especially so the two mint ones(with matching ditty bags) which should act like "textbook specimen"...I won't throw out saying that this time!
                  Further....F U C K the fakers and let's post details away.......they'll learn but we'll do too!
                  FWIW
                  Manny

well.. after "thinking" my opinion in this matter would be:
                      - Toms frame is oryginall - His webbing is the same like Roberts and Alex's frame.. also like Mannys full web frame from John's link - the wide straps have the same kind of webbing.
                      - Alexs frame is also oryginall - but put together - threads are replaced
                      - Jeffs frame (from estand - shame) is a fake (leather stiffer, post war straps bad webbing etc.) propably bag and horizontal strap are real.

And this is just MY opinion based on all posts and pictures here !!!!
