Does anyone knows what number that goes after year 39 means? I mean 55.

I have another pair of Schnürschuhe that has number 268 after year mark (see below).

Nice pair. If they ever need a new home

55 is supposed to be a manufacturer code , as the 268 of the low boots .
Many different codes observed but never had a complete table of them ?
Like the RBNr book for example ?
