Color looks postwar BGS

Both canisters are postwar ; as far as I can see both have Auer maker mark on lid which typical postwar marking on this type of gasmask canisters.

Yep, and you can clearly see the knick in the piece of metal were the strap is located to open the latch, these were straight in (pre) war time cannisters. The Auer marking is also a give away, these cannisters are also used in the industry, Auer virtually sold all it's mask in cannisters like these for the industrial market.

Uncle Goose, can you explain what "nick" means? I'm not sure what to look for. Do you mean the bend in the metal part that holds the strap?

Indeed, the (pre) wartime version is just straight, the post war cannisters have this "knick" as I call it. That's a good indication to look for if you want to buy a cannister.
