Issues with leather item that has shrunk overtime

Hello forum. Long time lurker first time posting. My question to anyone who can share info . I have a shovel carrier i recently aquired. When I went to place it on my belt set up I could barely reattach the leather loop to the rivet. I'm afraid if I force it too much the leather may split or crack. Is there a gentle way to reverse the effects of age on leather goods? Any info would be appreciated. I apologize if this has been discussed before. One last question does anyone know a dealer named tom schutz? He use to own the kings crown in Overland Park , kansas. The reason i ask is I use to purchase from him along time ago and I was wondering if he's still involved in the hobby.

not a good idea to try to stretch or treat that leather.. better just leave it unstrapped.

Thanks for the response Brian. I thought i had read here on the forum about a leather treatment that was considered acceptable . Rigido or something like that. I can't remember .
