    MG 34 Patronenkasten

    Hello guys,

I would like to buy this nice MG 34 Patronenkasten, but I would like to hear your opinions about it.

Is this a completely original German WW2 MG 34 Patronenkasten?

There is a faint eagle and WaA number visible, but there are also some white numbers and letters painted on the box.

The box still has all the leather reinforcements around the handles.

Can someone tell me something more about the maker mark please?

    Thanks in advance!

    Regards,
    Sven

It is a nice original patronenkasten...but not for ammo. It is stenciled Öl, so it would be for oil and petrol cans. If the price is right, the box is good

Pity some stupid guy scratched the paint just to show the maker's stamp better... Hawig if not mistaken

      Thank you.

So this Patronenkasten was never used for ammo?

Are the numbers and letters wartime applied or could it be post war done?

      Regards,
      Sven

Patronenkasten were used for several things apart of carrying ammo. There were used for spare parts, tools and medical supplies, as maksiusta has mentioned. There is a great informative article at Bergflak.com dealing with the V,K,and Z boxes for MGs. They were alsio used to carry oil and petrol for weapon maintenance, and for the "gurtfuller". These two were marked öl and G. Also some were used as field first aid box and would usually have a red croos painted on the sides. They could be used for many other things but not so official use.

            aah the one from militariaplaza.
Wanted to buy this one, cause I have the 2 oil cannisters that go inside.
Nice kasten, only bad thing is indeed the scratch paint at the makers logo.
            Rest is all original.

            best regards

This gurtkasten might have started it's life as an ammo can but later stenciled and used for oil and petrol cans. I have one that started as ammo can and was soon changed to medical box. You can see the numbers of the MG it belonged to, under the white paint. the original paint under the white is in very good condition.
