Nice pair of good cavalery Knobelbecheren. Stamps inside does not denote year but batch...These were made in 1939 not in 1956

              boots

Yes boots are okay but looking at those pics I would say the hobnails were added post war.

Take a look on proportions not only lenght of the bootleg. You got small sized boots issued for cavalery and horse drawn units...

I though cavalry boots had a different shape. To me they look like some good small size standard boots in incredible condition.

                        boots

You can see where quite a few of the hobnails were put in poorly and then reapplied, some of them are not firmly seated into the leather. It even looks like there are scuff/damage marks that go under the hobnails.
I would guess someone has just tried to apply the hobnails without the right tools for it - the guys that applied them in the war knew what they were doing, and had the right tools.
If I were buying them I would factor that into the asking price.

I can't imagine a WWII Wehrmacht cobbler worrying about marking or not the boots when nailing... Many times this was done at company level, so I don't think they would have any interest in the sole looking nice. There are a lot on sewing machine marks all around also, and I don't think it is bad either. We will never know who nailed these boots or when.

Imho textbook jackoots that had no alterations like adding studs or so..

Prewar jackboots where 3-4 cm higher, from about '40/'41 they where shortened 3-4 cm to save leather! That tells why they are high.

I don't think the nails are added postwar. I've seen studs with markings around them from misplacing before. It's normal in the process of making boots.

                              That's also my opinion.
