Anyone else use gear for hiking/camping

A lot of students and in my tech school go hiking and camping in the nearby woods.I plan on doing the same with my friends but need some gear.I plan on quickly assembling an A-frame set with the zeltbahn, mess kit,and bag.I was wondering if any of you all have done the same with WWII Heer,Waffen-SS,ect. combat gear. How well has the equipment worked for you and got any advices?

It was common to use such gear in to the late seventies. It works well, but to day you can buy better equipment for less money in your nearest sports store.

      Grüß Di' Alistair,

I've done a 2-day climb up to 10,000 feet in the French Alps with group of European reenactors in period/reproduction clothing and equipment. It was a cold night camping on the mountain with just our wool clothing and some Zeltbahns, but do able even for an 'old mule' like me.

Outstanding photos, looking good!Sounded like it was an awesome trip. The Gebirgsjager is one of the German services that I'm interested (under the Afrika Korps).Such cool equipment and nice uniforms and fighting in such perilous terrain.Mountain fighters in any nation have my respect, its a tough gig I imagine.

Anyway I plan on also using the famous Esbit stove.I have one but its unissued East German I think but will do the trick.I already have a replica of a M31 breadbag which I will use as well.Soon I'll have enough items to have a good camp experience.
