Nice assemble of gear! One of the things that interests me about Germany in WWII was the rag-tag nature they had to do when it came to manpower and equipment.I like the gas mask container and bag

                  You're welcome.....

Am I correct in asuming this is a polish shovel ??

I also have the austrian / czech / hungarian shovels, but they have a closed "bottom" if you know what I mean.

btw, the background: I take my pictures on a white background, and then it's a matter of cutting the edges (a long process, but never have been able to find another method which defined the edged of the equipment the way I wanted

Tom it is Austrian cover and Austrian shovel. Polish pre war is also pointed but frame of the cover and details of the tool are different. Among other disparities You will find price...Polish cost a lot more than any WH pattern

Can anyone post a photo of a Polish spade (if this one posted by Tom is not one)?

                            Tom,

I don't want to rain in parade but from top two examples only shovel is Polish pre-war. Cover on the left is Polish made but post-war, while this on top right is Austrian.

Here in Poland pre- war spade cover cost from 600€ and are extremely hard to find. Till now I've seen 2 maybe 3 nice examples. All in hands of one very experienced Collector.

                              Tom,
Was the Czech spade / carrier type produced during wartime only? (I have an identicle one, with the lion stamp on the inside on the hanging strap). The spade that came with it has only "GN" stamped on the metal neck. The quality overall is very nice - heavy leather, with the typical "fish scale" pattern on the upper strap. I'd like to know if it is post-war or WW2. Thanks!
