    Leather MP40 Pouches

I would like to hear your opinions on this leather pair. I have seen many originals and fakes in my 40 years of collecting, so I have a reasonable nose for good and bad of these pouches, but these are surprisingly well made, if fake. I only have photos, so unfortunately I cannot confirm the smell of old leather. The stiching looks good and the leather texture is also not the fake one commonly seen. But the following factors make me suspicious.

    1. Marked for 1939. I have only seen originals marked 1942, but fakes almost always
    have early dates.
    2. The WaA is 455, which is normally for companies around Ulm, but the marking inside
the pouch places the manufacturer in Dresden.

I tend to conclude they are well made fakes, but then again 1939 is not impossible and
I am not sure how much accuracy is in the Waffenamt numbering information available.

          Hello Nick,

I'm far from being an expert but I once had an original leather pouch (with mag loader pocket) and I haven't got a good feeling with this set. I would vote no. Stitching looks hand made to me, 1 stitch up 1 down.

My vote would be "Nay" as well

But I admit, they look surprisingly good....

I have probably got this very wrong but will mention it anyway...

The thing that jumped out for me was, was the designation mp38\40 in use in 1939?

Ah, yes, good point. At that point it would only serve the MP38 wouldn't it? That is a real damning point, thanks.
