Tell your friend that these straps are 1000% original .

Concerning the placement of the D-rings, I've seen multiple configurations on genuine Y-straps. Nothing to worry about.

The straps look good. I too have seen the D rings at different angles. Some sets you can see that they were originally sewn one way, then moved to the other position. The story I got on this was that soldaten prefered them to be sewn at an angle so that when they wore their Aframe or rucksack it was easier to put on because the D rings would then be straight up and down with the A frame/rucksack hooks.

Straps look ok to me, I have one too (dated 1944), although I'm not too sure about the endpiece.....

Do you have better pictures of it ?? (the endpiece I mean)

Not the type of hook I like to see on original straps, although I guess it could be okay.

Do you have a complete picture of the end piece (with leather) ?

This type of end piece is seen a lot on post war Y straps, although I do believe the Y straps themselves are original.
btw, original end pieces are often offered on ebay for reasonable prices

The camera I borrowed has departed my company.Unfortunately I didn't take a suitable close up.This is a blow-up of the best image I had.Don't think it helps though...

I have no real problems with that kind of hook. I would even say that it could have been a field-repair were a hook of the short gasmaskcanister-strap has been used, as these are identical.

Is the strap blackened at one side?

                              Cheers
