Picked this up today from a bedouin in El Alamein. I think its a seal of some sort. Anybody able to offer some information as to what these were used for? Can't wait to get back out there!

This is the makers mark that was attached to the bottom of large wicker artillery shell containers.

I know folks who used to live in algeria, and they said that at times the sands would shift, and especially after heavy wind storms, and uncover battle scenes in north africa that had previously been covered since world war two. Vehicles ,helmets and even bones of the germans would be exposed , then another storm would hit, and it would all be covered again . The guy said the helmets liners were always withered and hard from the heat....but the metal objects remained basicly the same...this appears to be aluminum....like the day it was dropped. I believe there still must be mines out there somewhere, or unexploded ordnance....nice scoop what did you pay him for this bauble?

Out of interest, does anybody recognize the makers mark?
