    Sidecar variants for MG 34

Hello all, I hope this is the correct forum for this post.

After having spent quite some time searching the internet, I decided to check if anyone on the forum could help. As you might know there appear to be 5 MG 34 related sidecar variants. The most commonly seen one these days
is the one with the MG mounted in front of the sidecar :

Although they weren't that common during the war, it does look pretty cool (I have one installed on my BMW R12 as well, and plenty of pics that prove they did exist ). Most of those lack the halterung for MG transport, Gurttrommeln and Laufschützer and the rack for 3 patronenkästen in the trunk though.

The plans for the different sidecar setups are quite easy to find, I also have a copy of D633/1 "Befestigungsvorrichtungen für M.G. 34 als l. und s. M.G. an Kradseitenwagen" which shows all parts installed in each version. However, the pics in it are of very poor quality.

I'm looking for details of one version in particular : the one intended for transporting the lafette 34 and 10 Patronenkästen :

What I found so far :

Pictures of an unfortunate R12 showing some of the special mounts for this version :

A picture kindly provided by forum member Carles, from an MG 34 manual :

And finally a recent picture found on axis history forum of a BMW R75 equipped with this sidecar (probably in the UK) , so there's at least one in existence :

I'm looking for any details, pictures, measurements, etc. of this particular sidecar variant.

I hope somebody will be able to help.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dominic

P.S. as far as I know none of these pictures are copyrighted

    R75 lafette mount.

Hi,the sidecar with lafette mount is probably the same one I saw at Beltring a couple of years back, I know the chap who had the mount made to fit in that replica sidecar, he normally has a stand at Beltring every year. If I go to the new show I'll see if he is there with the outfit. I believe I have some photos somewhere will have to dig them out. Regards David.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the new war & peace show this year. If you manage to go there and see the sidecar, it would be nice to have some detail shots of it.

Will get in touch with HP Hommes (Wehrmachtsgespann.de) as well, good idea.

        Cheers,

        Dominic

Managed to make a quick one day visit to the new War and Peace show in Folkestone. I found it rather disappointing, about 80 % of the German vehicles (at least the ones that I saw) were replicas. No trace of the lafette sidecar unfortunately... The search goes on.

            Hi guys.
            Here is the original mount.
If you need a replica, write me a message.

It's been a few yeasr since my initial request, so here's an update: I managed to purchase a Russian copy of the lafette mount on Ebay, not sure if it came from the same source as the above post. Unfortunately it needed quite a bit of grinding and welding to make everything fit properly. Based on scans of the original manual I was able to scratchbuild the missing parts as well. So I was finally able to finish my lafette sidecar .

I'd also like to thank Paul, owner of the BMW R75 in my initial post, for his input and photos .

              Cheers,

              Dominic

Great pics and nice moto. You've also got yourself an Überzug zum MG34
