Strange Black Finish on Gasmask Cannister

Hallo,

Yesterday I traded this German gasmask cannister with member DMV and he had also never seen this before.
The cannister is dated with fnn43.
The strange thing is that it has a black finish.
It is completly black, inside, outside and even the small strap!
There was never another paint under the black one.
Was this for a kind of special organisation or just a another colour for the Wehrmacht?
Please give me your opinion!

I have seen this kind of finish before on gasmask cannisters made by the Swedish company Bicapa, although these were no German cannisters. Maybe Bicapa bought some of these German cannisters unpainted and applied their own paint? I can post a picture of the Bicapa cannister if you want.

Looks like a crinkle-type finish as seen on 1950s typewriters to me.

I think it is indeed a crinkle finish.
But they used that sort of paint before, during and after the war.
