    Canteen, cover laced instead of buttoned!

    Hello fellow collectors!
    I bought this canteen at the Ciney show last week! The cover is very interesting, it is laced instead of snap buttons!
    As a collector friend told me that he have a similar one, i am pretty sure that it is not a post war modification, it is more a late war spare cover! The canteen itself is stamped "HRE 42", the cup "JSD 43" and the strap is a 44 with Rb Nr.
    The fabric is strange, maybe foreign? It is more green as on the pics, reminds me more to the Heer tropical color!
    I hope i will get some pics of the canteen from my friend soon...

    The real color (greenish) is visible in the background on the pic with the Rb Nr.!

      That side lacing reminds me of the WWII Bulgarian canteen cover... maybe reworked latewar for German use? -wolfey

            Mah.....I don't know what to say.....of course could be "reworked" but, IMO, the aloy body was fit there many many many years ago.
            I don't know if this is an war time or post war jiob, but I like what I see.
