inusual MG ammo box from italy

Hello to all friends of waf forum, I present a discovery of some years ago near grosseto (Italy), a box for ammunition, with a closing unusual, very unusual as well as color that is composed of three layers, yellow continental ,blaugrau and finally a gray aluminum, above the gray coloration aluminum are present painting codes of white color identified as O - 4.
A side are 4 holes probably for fixing to a half.
It 's also the waffenamt WaA 545?
has anyone ever seen something like this?
what can 'serve that complex locking system?

Best wishes and sorry for my english

    Stefano

ps red lock is only demonstrative and has been added by me to make the photo

the paper is pasted after the war, the current owner had written "box for gardens and electric cable (mowing grass)

silver coat of paint is certainly post-war.
One coat of paint on the other is the standard.
In my view, this locking system the post-war fantasy, you can not see on the war paint. it collects cases from almost 15 years and have not encountered such a closure.

Impossible, the gray paint is the one that has the codes in white paintings, the closure is very old and it is sure that it is not to work after the war, the situation in Italy after the war was not to change the locks on the boxes mg, there remains a great deal of curiosity as to why the soldiers did this.

Ps the white paint of the mg code is on the gray painting

I guess it was converted to a Document Box, maybe to store Sold-Books of fallen Soldiers, Dog Tag Halves or other valuable Stuff in a Clerks Office Box or so.
to me it looks period, maybe field made but the work looks like made in an equipped workshop. I must also add that I saw such case about 10-12 Years ago. I also know these locked Cases from the US Forces.
