It`s a "Kochkiste", for cooking!

Very common even in civy households. You cook something and put it hot in the Box to finish it by it's own heat what saves a lot of energy. We also did this in the Boy Scouts in the field by wrapping the Suff in Blankets or sleeping Bags. Was good when you have only one Fireplace. Cook the rice or noodles and put it for the rest of the time in the "Cook Box" and you have the Fireplace for other Stuff.
