3 mountain trooper Ice pics,Stubai Original Aschenbrenner + Ralling, named -Help!

    Hi all,

I was recently offered three ice pics from one family, which belonged to a mountain troop soldier named ` Heinz Nagel` and is being offered by his grandson. Unfortunately, after going through a divorce all photos were kept by the ex, and his pair of Wehrmacht "Steigeisen" (crampons) were sold on ebay by the ex for 35 Euros, making what would have been a nice detailed group just single items. The grandson was wondering which of the pics was issued to him as they are all 1940`s, and is currently looking for the stamps on them.

The group also comes with two unrelated badges that were found in a 1970`s fleamarket by his father.

Nagel was on the Eastern front and shot in the eye, ended up as a POW in Russia, sent to France for repatriation and worked for a drunk farmer who was a French WW1 vet (who was somehow worse than the Russians).

Can anyone give me any advice on value on the pics as well as the types?

    Cheers

    Grüß Di' Discostu,

Both ice axes posted look to be in poor condition and unless there are unit markings, waffen-amt markings, etc....they are just period civilian mountaineering ice axes...though civilian axes were used by the military also. The wrist straps have been replaced with bicycle toe clip straps.

The STUBAI Original Aschenbrenner ice axe is a design used by the famous mountaineer "Himalaya" Peter Aschenbrenner (Nanga Parbat Expeditions in 1932, 1934, & 1953). Peter was also a Gebirgsjäger and Heeresbergführer during the war.

The Felix Ralling * Fulpmes ice axe is another forge in the Stubai Valley in Austria which made climbing gear.

    Berg Heil,

    Patrick

      Hi Paterick,

Thanks for the information! Any idea of a reasonable price to pay for them based on condition? I am not familiar with the ice pic market but find them interesting.

      Cheers !
