Case question

Hi Gentlemen

A friend asked me what this is and the only thing that I could come up with was that it resembles a case for carrying optical aiminggear for a mortar. Can someone help me out here?

Hello Thomas,

The letters on the case stand for Rundblick Fernrohr 36. I think this is a optical piece for a canon (gunsight). I don't know what canon. Maybe I can find out.
