    Gas Sheet for Review

While I was at one time a fairly accomplished Heer gas defense collector, this style sheet always made me pause. I would like to know up or down, if this style sheet is period or otherwise.

I'm not an expert on gasplane sheets but this isn't an item I have ever seen before. It looks more like somebody faked it and used a ordinary spray can to put on the lettering. Not something I would expect from a factory made item.

Yes, I saw this tread cycle to the top shortly after I posted my inquiry. When I was collecting Heer, the only examples I ever encountered were in unlikely numbers from a single source in Poland. This was some years ago. Certainly caches of things still turn up to this day, but at the time I was always suspicions. Having one in hand now, I can honestly say that it certainly smells real.

                hi Michael,

I dont have the book infront of me but Uniforms and traditions vol3 the equipment one, shows an example in there with a soldier under it, they IMO are original, the way mine was stamped didnt make sense if it was to fool someone, the bag I got seperate from the sheet, batches show up it seems from time to time, but its a very hard piece of equipment to come across, good find for you!

                  Hi Michael,
I have the same sheet as well, although the markings have long since faded away. I believe it is original too.

On further looking (using grndevil44's technique of holding the sheet up to bright light), I see mine is marked the same as his.....what looks like "gnd" or "grd", then "250-43-11", and on last line: "80 Ly We [Tp]"

Tom has said that the "80" means the number of folds....not sure what Ly and We mean....perhaps the material - like "Op" on the tan sheets?

Mine has identical marking to grndevil's picture, but even fainter (too hard to photograph I think):

"Op" stands for "Opanol" (fabric) ...Has been written in 3# Angolia if I remember correctly
