Five years ago I believe some were brought in to the country by a guy named Mike Krause(he worked some trade deal out with the curator evidently), any way i had a chance to look those over as well and they were good. I would have to handle yours to be certain but based on what I see they may be good.

    Cheers

For once I'm in opposition to Manny! I do think Gary is right here. The actual canvas is in my eyes very good, the marking (inked white square with eagle and makers code (not all visible in this case)) is in the correct spot. Only thing that makes me a little hesitant is the three leather straps on the front. These doesn't quite match the overall wear and tear. Possible explanation might be a higher grade quality of leather, so the parts have aged unevenly!
This pouch is good, although strange, in my eyes. The other one pictured above sports at least 4 of the common mistakes found on the Cz copies, but I will have to reconsider that since the history of it is so well documented!

Hello again to all. Having just returned from my time reflecting on what may have been a bad purchase, it seems all may not be lost.
The only thing I had helping me with the purchase of this mag pouch was seeing one "good" example a few years ago, and many repro examples, the smell and feel of the pouch and the proverbial "gut feeling". Unfortunately, I did not realise there were Eastern European copies that seem so good. Perils of the subject matter, I guess.
Once again, a big thank you to everyone for discussing this and sharing your knowledge. Maybe one day soon I will also be able to offer advice, instead of picking everyone elses brains!
      Cheers,
      Scott

P.S. I will be keeping the pouch in my collection, as I'm fairly sure now that it's o.k.

It would be interesting if you could point out these features, Bergflak.

        Thanks,

I would think its better that those who are interested in the letting Reidar point out the features, PM him. No reason to let the repro guys get free tips in the public?

          Regards

I must admit that this pouch puzzled me quite a bit;its canvas is good, features are nearly spot-on,still something rings more than a bell!I agree with you Reidar....must be its leather fittings;they look oddly "floppy" and newish!I must reconsider the whole thing(stamps are hardly a thing that I look at in the first place....too easily faked!)and give this pouch a 70% which wouldn't be enough to let it in my collection though!

Carl is of course quite right, I am always trying to avoid "spilling the beans" (although I sometimes get so provocated that I can't help myself.....)! But for those interested in studing the subject there are a few threads on this forum on MP40 mag pouches allready. Make some comparisons for yourself and let me know what you find!
