    Strange KriegsMarine Thermometer

    Hello to all,

This is again a very strange, but nice thing.
It's a heavy protected Kriegsmarine Thermometer. You can See at the front the early eagle , the M of Kriegsmarine 954 and a N.

At the side , you can see C. Plath then a strange Marking and then Hamburg.

You can turn the outside part in front of the opening of the Thermometer, so the Thermometer is protected.

Wenn you open the Thermometer, you can see that the Thermometer itself is marked ReichsMarine.

Below the Thermometer is a big compartment for.............?
It has only 3 openings on the Top.

I really have no Idea , for what purpose this Thermometer was used , and where.

I'm also curious what the strange marking at the side Means.

Can anyone tell me more about this Thermometer and about it's markings???

    I hope so.

    Greetings from Holland,
    Frank

    Foto's will be attached soon.

            Hi Frank

Could it be the type of thermometer, that was thrown over the side of a boat to measure sea temperature (or at least thrown into something!)??
The larger part on the bottom could either be for weighing the therm down, for extra protection or if it's wood, a float!! I'm sure that I have seen something similar before..

            Interesting piece.

              Hello,
I also thought he was ment to measure the temperature of the sea, but I'm not sure. The big part of th thermometer is made of leather, not wood. I don't know if that can suvive it to hang everytime in the water.

The strange Marking at the side is just the Logo of Carl Plath in hamburg.
It's a guy with a Sextant in front of his head. You see it when you look very well. The X is his body.

I still hope someone has another foto of this thermometer, and I hope someone knows for sure where he was ment fot. Does anyone also knows something about it's value?

              Greteings,
              Frank
