    GJ/SS Styrian gaiters: genuine issue?

    Hi,

still trying hard to learn more about gebirgs equipment, and would like some opinions on these:

I have seen similar pictures of markings were these were stated as post-war markings. But one thing that (to me) says it might be real is the fabric itself,it seems correct in my eyes.

Otherwise it could be claimed that they don't have enough wear and tear, but i don't think that should be the only thing one should judge after.

    I don't like them:

    1. Friction buckles and hooks looks post war.
    2. Canvas and webbing looks more like from Warsaw Pact period than WW2 German.
    3. Stamp looks odd.

Interesting....me who thought the canvas and webbing looked good. I know there were at least 2 types of canvas, green and grey, right? Do you have pictures or links to the correct type for comparison? Just to educate me

Is the stamp itself supposed to be different,or is it just too good for it's age?

Buckles and hooks, any comparisment to other genuines out there?(pics, links)

      Thanks for your opinion Grubhy

have you got a close-up of the canvas on yours? Not easy to see texture at that distance.

Seems like yours, and others that are said to be real, have white stamp markings. The ones I have seen labeled as fakes/post war have black-ish stamps/markings. A coincidense? Maybe..don't know.

Its a different kind of webbing(correct word for it?!?),you can clearly see stripes going "leaning stripes" in the fabric,on my pictures of the gaiters,no such stripes are clearly visible,in addition to the different color.

Thanks for the very interestin photos, nice to compare the items

I dont think the colour of the stamp black vs white is an indication of fake vs original ...

This one posted previously looks perfectly ok to me .

                    Grüß Di' Gwen,

                    Here's a pair that I have:

I also don't see what is so suspicious about the OP gaiters. Post-war versions of these are very different-looking animals:

Of course, this pair of BW Gamaschen (and others I've come across so far) were made a decade after the formation of BW, leaving ample room for speculation as to what the early BW or even BGS equivalent might have looked like. However, until evidence shows that the OP gaiters are definitely post-war, it seems a little premature to dismiss them based solely on the font or color of the maker stamp, or even the color and texture of the fabric. After all, by the time German equipment makers were identified by RBNrs, they had a whole lot more to worry about than the uniformity of fabric and stamp colors!

Edit: Just saw Patrick's nice pair, which seems to be from the same maker as the one Gwen posted. The OP pair is from a different Berlin-based maker. Perhaps that might account for the small differences we are seeing?

I see what you were getting at now. I was operating on much more elementary (and faulty) assumptions, and probably should have kept quiet ...

Still, the OP pair does look different (and perhaps more convincing) than, for instance, this one:

                          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=273823

This endless war with sophisticated fakery is probably why I gravitate towards genuine post-war stuff

I totally agre Grubhy, even though many argue that it only gives fakers more meat on the bones if we disclose to much. But I think they will somehow get this info either way...

Here is another pair for sale(at stiff prices though!) at the CG:
                              http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Waffe...s/S027461.html

Not the best picture, but these also have a white stamp. And it looks like the fabric and color svheme as the ones below(not like the ones in my first initial post).
