    KM Clock Help

I am trying to find out as much information as possible on the KM Clock shown. From memory I recall the manufacturer as perhaps being Kieninger & Obergfell but don't know anything more.

Any other additional information would be most welcome. I am not a timepiece collector so do not have the reference books associated with this area.

            Hello Rob,
Wow...very nice clock. I wanted to let you know that I have the same clock. The one I have was removed from a u-boat in Norway (unknown ID number). It was removed personally by my fathers uncle after the war (he actually removed 2 and gave us one). Unfortunately he had the KM eagle and number ground off . It is still a very nice piece tho. I am curious on one point, ours was painted black after the war. I dilligently removed the paint to show the brass underneath. Alas, I too was looking for more history on the clock (ie the uboat ID number), but have not been able to find any. If someone does give you any info, please let me know. Again, very nice clock . It is good to see another one.

                Hi Andy,<O</O

I made a mistake before, the book I’m referring to is Military Timepieces, 150 Years Watches and Clocks of German Forces by Konrad Knirim: It is quite expensive at about 150 Euro to buy for just one reference that’s why I was hoping there might have been some timepiece collectors on the forum. I think I may try to see if I can get this from the Library.

Shame your clock had the number and eagle ground off. I think you will be lucky to find a replacement nameplate but I have seen a damaged clock on e-bay before which had a reasonable face plate, perhaps that might be the answer.

I am not sure but I think all of the clocks may have originally been supplied with the black finish. This is one of the questions I was hoping to clarify. Most of the time this was removed post war, perhaps someone must have repainted yours once again.

Unfortunately one would have thought that there would be some reference which could trace the clock number to see where it was used but this does not seem to be the case. As well as the face number the case should have a number on the back and should match numbers on the hinge and lock etc.

Do your relations still have the other clock?

                Regards
                Rob

                  Hi Rob,
The numbers on the back of the clock match the key. I did not realize that that would also be the number listed on the front (good news I guess). I was given a couple of address (not email) that might be able to put the serial number with the proper boat it belonged on, but I have since lost them . I feel like a pin head after removing the black paint, I guess I should have left it. The last I knew, my fathers uncle still had the other clock. That was in 1976 tho, and I am sure he has since passed. I had brief period of time where I was email family in Norway, but the clock never came up in conversation (most of the family frowned on the Wehrmacht items). If you hear anything on finding the history of the clocks by serial numbers, please let me know.

                    Hi Andy,

The numbers on the case should match (I believe probably manufacturers numbers) but did not think these would match the number on the face plate also, does yours? Also my key does not have a number. Any chance of some photos.
                    Regards
                    Rob.

                      Rob,
I would be happy to post some pics, but I am having problems doing it (the computer genius of the family-aka "wife" is supposed to help me with it). I can email you some pics if you send me your email address.

Mine for $1280 USD Uboat Clock

I just purchased this one for $1280.

The clock is a WW2 Kriegsmarine Uhren. It cannot be verified that it was
fitted to a German U Boot. Because there is no serial number on the dial.
Loolk at Ulric of England or Germania International both Premier Militaria
sites. Ulric has an identical clock to yours, you have done well on the
price as you will see compared to the dealer prices. Some of these clocks
have a serial number some dont. They were fitted to ships and U boots. The
dial is silvered and should not be cleaned with anything
other than a silver cloth and very carefully, I think I woud not touch it.

I have an article on Uboat clocks if you need it just email me.
Any comments welcome both good and bad.

I think they were painted and some were not painted.

I think they were issued unpainted. They had a new old stock one on ebay a few months ago that was unpainted.

This is my first Uboat Clock.

                            KM Clocks

These clocks look legit. However, there are some very good fake engravings on clocks coming out of Spain. Many show up on ebay from time to time.
