German Oilcanister?

Hi everybody, found this item at the fleamarket.
Could some please tell me were this canister is used for.
It was made in Nürnberg in 1938, and has an unit marking on it. (Festungs Pionier Stab 20, Abt III.)

I had never seen one like this one (not surprising because I haven't seen any ) so I hope some one can illustrate and I can learn. It looks period original.

Interesting that it is marked "Reichsheer" and not Wehrmacht.

Looks like a Can for Petroleum for Lamps. Makes some Sense with a Fortress Unit.

Thanks for your replies, I think its also for Petroleum used.
Can somebody perhaps tell me an estimated value of this piece? There I am not planning to sell it.
