Zeltbahn wooden pegs

Last find. I hope it's genuine german WWII items. Any opinions?

Hi,
I always thought of these as german WW1 - 1931 army issue. The newly designed triangular "WW2" Zeltbahn arrived in 1931. After 1931 the wooden pegs were generally used by non-military organisations (HJ, SA, RAD, TeNo ect.), with leftovers of course used up by the army. Could be WW2-produced, but not likely german army then. German army 1931-45 used all metal pegs (aluminium, later stamped steel) with ropes attached and from 1940 also pressed wooden pegs with ropes (produced 1940-42).

This is only my assumption. Maybe someone else has an opinion? Maybe other countries used these as well?

Are there any signs of stampings/marks on them Michal?

Pegs have no mm. I know this model was used by German forces before WWII. The problem is, that bulgarian WWII pegs are identical as german WWI. I've seen many wooden pegs before, but still can't find any diffrences beetwen this two models (german WWI - bulgarian WWII).

That Bulgaria used these as well is new to me. Thanks Maybe someone has pegs from both countries, there might be some differences in measurements? I have seen marked ones, possibly faked markings, however I think most are found unmarked.

Maybe now. I have another zeltbahn wooden pegs, and I'm sure they are genuine. As You see both sets looks identical, but I heard that bulgarian...looks identical like german wwI

It seems that also the Belgian army used this type of pegs before 1940.
Who knows more?

I have few sets of pegs which came from Bulgarian army surplus. For me was alwso dificult to find difernse betwen them and German WW1. To make the matter more complicated some of them came in bags which look like german ones. Some were easy to difine as WW2 era Bulgarian by bacelite buttons bearing words "For Gentlemen", but other were with metal buttons.








and there is a deferense in quolity too - some of them are better shaped and metal parts are not welded but are made from some kind of tube. If that is some clue?

None of these pegs/poles are German W1 the info on the zelt triangle is also incorrect there was a scarce Imperial one used for closing the double tent 'end' M15.

I must admit with Hoss. SInce my last writing here, I was abble to see and compare a lot of pegs.[IMG][/IMG]
They were all Bulgarian army surplus and were used in some period by Bulagarian soldiers. Form the observation I can conclude there there are some diferences between Bulgarian and German pegs at least from post war production. So in order to prevent felow colectors from illeducated or dishonest traders which use similarities to make money, I would like to share with you my conclusions and to show some pictures. There are a lot of pegs that come from here that were offered as German, but not all of them are. Some of those which I own were marked and dated- 1915.





I bougth it cheep and directly from the army which makes it certen that they are are not fake. The one thing that I still can not determine is if those pegs that are not marked but looks exactly like marked ones and are 37 cm long are indeed german or preWW2 bulgarian production. I presume they are. Becouse most of the pegs that can be found here are from the type that show big differences from german marked ones.


1.They are bigger (some with 1 cm others with more - secont type I thing are Post ww2 examples)
2, they are in worse quality than the german ones



3. the short stiks that are used for the rope attacment are more light and with batter made metal parts.


About pag bags there are few certain types with exaption of the german ones(which are marked and typical german ww1)





there a about 4-5 bulgarian models, some marked. Most of them post ww2. All of them are alwso often sall as german.

And there is one type which puzzeled me -it is bigger than ww2 bulgarian and ww1 german but is similar to german ones. Strange part is that it has strange riverted buttons? Did anybody knows it is origins? Could it be Russian?
