Let's see. Some dealers sell them at $14-$15 each....hmmm. There's so many we didn't bother counting them, just filled a bin bag each...oh and there's a lot more still there.

A lot of them were still in their original cardboard case with the little swabs...but 60 years underground isn't too good for cardboard. Oh well, you can't have everything

Now i didn't take a picture of the spot where there's hundreds of gasmasks, cases and all the other gas realted stuff...still got a nice couple of horses gas masks, you don't see them too often.

            Simon orchard.

Fill them up with Vodka and sell them to American tourists in Norway

            Nice find.

                Jean-Loup,

Judging by the rocks and dirt it appears that someone dumped mostly slag rock to build up the sides of the road...these may have come out of dump somewhere or possibly a farmer dumped them with the slag.....another theory is that this road had been used during the war and a vehicle may have been destroyed there and contents dumped to the sides of the road. based on my experience of metal detecting much can be found next to roads like this or down hillsides. did you check the other side of the road as well? Bill

Actually this track was just recently put through this spot and they cut through this dump, or rather the corner of the dump, as they dug the drainage ditch on that side of the road they cut through some of the bottles and the spoil, including all thos broken bits you see were thrown up on top of the bank. Luckily the majority were untouched further into the bank . The bottles were still in their crates as there were the remnants of both crates and packing material. Also there was a dump of all sorts of vehicle, heavy weapon parts and tools, most of it you'd need to be a real vehicle and artillery expert to ID on the spot but we could ID some cool stuff, like a hand wheel for the 88, tools for the PAK40 etc. At least we didn't have to slog our way up mountains to find this lot.

We checked the other side, and there were a few bits and pieces, like the 88 handwheel i mentioned. This area is covered in stuff and was a major depot\garrison for the Germans. Along with the huge amount of gasmasks and other gas related equipment about 50m away from here we think it could well have been a divisional depot...if not a korps.
