        I agree; Weapon Number: "G" stands probably for "Gewehr"

          totaly disagree it being a weapons number, i have never seen a k98 number with xxxx.x the last digit seperated by a komma rules out the weaponsnumber theorie. what it then represents? no idea

            I don't think that is a dot... because there is also a dot after the last digit....

            Looks more like two "dents" ... how they ended up there I don't know....

            If they are dots, it could be weapon number, and then 1. (which in german means first) for 1. zug or something.. but I'm just guessing here

              For those interested, I found the answer: it is the weapon number....

              A H.V.Bl from 1939 stated that an inspection of the RG's was done and they were stamped with weapon number and a G (for Gewehr/Rifle) and a P(for Pistole/Pistol)
