other side. The whole lid is removable, there is a chain between the lid and the body. The big round thing ontop is a screw, securing the lid on its place

Well, maybe a good beginning would be a translation of the word. Anyone with fluent German? Thanks!

Thank you very much, Gary! Starter fuel... starter fuel... what kind of machine did have small petrol/benzene engines for starters... Some aircraft did, but this does not look to me like an aricraft piece, does it? Did the tanks have non-electric starter engines? And what about the heavy trucks? Yes, I have many more questions

          Once again, thanks Gary!

Hmm, a small fual tank to feed a small starter engine.... some other time Now I think it is something different - a small fuel tank for starting the engine. Indeed "starter fuel" - German vehicles had it for starting in extreme conditions /like Russian winter.../, it is not fuel for small starter engine, but for the main engine. Even the Schwimmwagen had such a tank /about 1 liter of fuel/.

            Hi Theo,
what you've got is a can that contained very volatile fuel(often ether)which helped to enrich the mixture of air and fuel in hot weather, and it was a typical feature of the "Personenkraftwagen K1 Typ 82",aka the "kubelwagen"!
            Hope that helps!
            Manny
P.S.;now you've got to find the other 1546 pieces the Kubel was made of

Thanks Manny! Now I only need to find the rest of the Kubel! This is great, I mean it s great that the can is a part of a combat vehicle

                Hi,

Since the subject of a Kubelwagen was brought up I thought those who have not seen this before might like to. It was for sale for a short time but not presently.

It doesn't belong to me. I do have more pictures of it if anyone is particularly interested. Email me and I can email them back.

I also have pictures of a Schwimmwagen that was owned by the same person that owned the Kubelwagen but the Schwimmwagen was sold last year.

Both vehicles were restored in the 1960's to be as correct as possible.
