Hi Les,

didn't noticed this post before...but maybe you have more luck getting replies if you post this thread in the firearms-section,why...IMO this looks like a sort of optical sight for use with an MG?

I'm sure it is a german wartime optical piece and therefore these are rare, no matter what the purpose was, so PLEASE, tell you friend NOT to throw it away!

The metal container looks similar to the ones used to store the "Ziehleinrichtung 34" for MG 42's.
