    Mess kit question

Hello everyone, I was recently asked by a new member how to tell the difference between post war and WWII mess kits. I have only a couple of authentic kits and just one post war. The most notable differences being the way the handle is secured to the body, and the height or size of the lid, as well as the color of the paint. My photos are less then adequate and I'm without my digital, so any additional photos would be greatly appreciated. This is my early political mess kit showing how the handle is affixed.

Can't go by just the handle Greg. There are wartime kits with handles like your post war kit. Best thing to go by is whether or not they are maker marked and dated! There are several variations of wartime and post war kits. The post war kit with the tall lid is just one. There are post war "police" kits that are almost identical to the original wartime kits.

I agree with Harry on all of the above...( I sleep better though, knowing that my marmite is maker market and dated )

        Best Regards,
