Wow! Close call! Are you and your friend Ok? After something like that, I would have trouble sleeping. How did the plane fair? It wasn't an old ME109 or some other rare aircraft? God was looking out for you today buddy.

I personnally don't like the whole effect of gravity. I usually wear a parachute when I fly. They say "it's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop when meeting Earth that does".

I just told a story on another thread, of a time a friend and I took out his kubelwagon and we crashed it! It was pretty bad. My friend really hurt himself. I was just thrown over the hood at 40 MPH, Ouch!

Thank you so much for your kind words Steve!By the way...it's good to be back on the forum again!Why I say that?Because this very afternoon me and a friend crash-landed a plane into a corn field barely missing a ditch !
I really couldn't wait to get home and read your posts.....it means I'm SAFE AND SOUND..........too bad for fakers !|

Thank you so much for your friendly words Steve!Plane's behaved remarkably well...but to be honest I was too busy cutting al circuits off and scanning the ground to report to my friend who was trying not to stall the aircraft the many ditches,telephone poles and hedgerows that were "waiting" for two poor b#st#rds whose plane had become a not-so-flying brickwall!We barely missed a ditch and crash-landed in a corn field........they should grow corn on aircraft carriers....it slow you down remarkably well ...but I'd love to see the face of the farmer when this morning he'll find a big white bird "parked" in his crops !
Whatever.....I'll stick to my WH tunics from now on and listen to my girlfriend...she had this feeling that we shouldn't have taken off...she smsed it to me many times but I laughed and didn't pay attention !

Any landing you can walk away from is a good one.
Well that's what my flight instructor told me anyway. He was a neat old Scotsman and a real character. He used to fly Spitfires just after the war.
We had a close call once up at the old Maple airfield at Hwy 400 & Jane St.(now the site of Canada's Wonderland). We were up doing stalls and spin recovery in a 172 and when finished we were coming in for a landing, suddenly the oil pressure drops, we just touched down and cut the engine, then we came to a stop. We got out to have a look and were very surprised to see the whole starboard side of the engine cowling covered in oil, the oil cap had become loose and began leaking oil all over the place. Luckily, or by some sort of fate we were over the runway when the problem became immediate. Fate is like a woman, difficult to understand and one never knows what she has in store for you. Congratulations again on your landing safely and returning to Terra Firma.

Hi Martin,
thank you so much for your very kind words!Some people say than in those few seconds you can see all your life passing before your eyes as if it was a movie...it hasn't happened to me....I was too busy scanning my 45° "safety cone" for trees,poles,ditches,walls and stuff,cutting circuits and cursing against the fuel gauge while the pilot was busy not to stall the plane....I noticed a ditch at the very last second and my friend luckily managed and drop the nose,get a little more speed and perform a little masterpiece!Although he's a rather cool guy he was obviously shocked but we ended up laughing about the whole thing!We laughed about the fact that the worst part of the story was getting out of the cornfield more than the crash itself,that after the crop circles we made a corn straight and all kind of stupid,childish things, but when I saw that a few yards before the point where the plane touched the ground there was a big block of concrete hidden in the weeds,well, it made me stop laughing for a good minute!
It's good to hear from other friends and to read their very friendly words,and as I have told Airborne Steve, too bad I cannot be phisically with them and have a beer!Whatever...it's great to be in touch and to share opinions, thoughts and have a laugh or two!You've become part of my life,and it's rad to have friends to discuss this wonderful hobby with!Yes,I know, you'd rather have Catherine Zeta-Jones telling you these things, but I think you have to make do with Manny and his perpetual flow of bulls##t instead !
