    Canteen help needed

    Good day Guys
I need some help with this canteen. Is it a wartime piece, put together or postwar? Cup is marked MN43 and the bottom of the canteen Menesa. No date stamps on the canteen or cover-only a ink stamp that looks like 'KUB' or perhaps 'KGB' on the underneath the clips that holds the cover closed.
    Any feedback would be appreciated
    Barry

Looks ok to me but MN43 on the cup seems a little crude, not sure if Ive seen any MN43 before, my first concern would be the cup...Unbutton the first 1 or 2 cover buttons to see if there is a stamp on the neck of the flask. Ive seen the stamp KUB before. Im no expert but I wouldnt panic yet :P

            Cheers

I had a look at the neck-no date on the canteen or cap. Were the aluminium canteens always dated? Thanks for the help

                  Canteen

                  Good morning, gentlemen,

Barry, your canteen is ok, there are unmarked ones of WWII-production.
The cup is a post-war police one, the marking is self-made. Existing MN
                  markings are always neat.
Maybe the canteen was used by the police after the war, post-war produced
police canteens were stamped with 50ies dates.
The BW never used this type of canteen; the first BW-model was a nearly
similar model of the "Kokosnuss" tropical canteen.

                  Best regards from Germany

                  Reiner

                    Re- Reiner,

                    Many thanks for your in-put
I have a un-marked big alu (GJ/Sani volume) and always thought it was post war... You are saying that the BW/Police only used the small volume ones ?
                    thanks

"KuB" was One of the leading Makers for Canteen Straps. You find those Markings often on Straps. The most Canteen Makers were pure Metal Makers and did not have an internal workshop for Leather Parts. So they bought those Parts at "KuB" or "R&K"

                      Best Regards

                      Andy

                        Police canteens

                        Hello sturmann,

the standard canteen for Police/BGS use was the little one. The bigger Sani-ones were used by the Red Cross/Civil Defense Aidmen.
The Police canteens had the felt cover, the BGS used felt covers and the im-
pregnated, wood-like ones. Original Polce-/BGS canteens had the cup painted
in OD or dark Police green The Cups are mostly unmarked, the Canteens had
the production year and makers marks on the usual places.
                        Hope this helps

                        Best regards

                        Reiner

Thanks for all the feedback-this is a very informative thread. I had a closer look at the cup and it is also stamped on top with 'Menesa' with 'Aluminium' and what looks like 'pur' in very small letters above it.
So much for thinking it was a wartime canteen-lesson learnt.
                          Barry
