    Sänitater ammo box :D

Hi guys, picked up this german ammo box, with red cross on it. Since i cannot post any pics on this forum, i have this link. Sorry for that , but here it is : http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtop...=430416#430416
    Hope you guys like it!

    Greetings, Tom

    Hello Tom,

The box itself is good, but offcourse it's all about the rc painted on it ( wartime or not). The provided pictures don't allow me to give an opinion. It would be nice to post a close-up of the red-cross.
If the lady actually picked up this box in 45, it is original indeed. And yes, these were used to transport medical bandage, kompressen, morfine, plasma,etc...

One must note that these are faked with hundreds. Last year in Ciney, I saw around 20 of them...all bad IMO. With the 'aging-trics' of today, it isn't that hard to fake a small painted red-cross on a metal box.

The gap in price between a sanitäter issued MG ammo box and a normal one is offcourse the reason why!
Not to forget all these boxes that are used by re-enactors.

Just a quick question, is there a red-cross on each side?

Anyway, if the story is correct, you have a wonderfull and scarce piece!

PS : I have one that came straight "out of the woodwork" (Dunkerque-area)...I will post some pictures of it if you want.

    Groetjes

Hoi jan, no, the red cross is one side only, and yes, i think the story must be true, i can not see why the old lady should be lying about it , but ok, sometimes you never know for sure. I shall try to make a good close up of it, i will post it in the axis history forum thread. I would love to see pics of your box.

Here you go, Tom. Very used condition but unquestionably 'has been there ' original.
I must admit it is one of my favorite pieces as well

        Cheers

Thanks jan, and, just out of curiosity, i absolutely dont want to sell this piece, but what would be the aproximate value on this box?

Tom, It is worth what someone is willing to give for it.

Sorry, but it is difficult to put a fixed price on it.
I know that some time back, one went for around 100 $ on Ebay, but I doubted it's originality.

                      Cheers

                          Hoi Jan,
yours sounds like a conversation between "Hawkeye" of M.A.S.H. fame and Dr. Kildare!
OK,OK....I'll crawl back under my favourite stone with all my old shoes! !
I'm going to post a thread on the Association Forum focusing on a pair of M43 trousers made of Italian Gabardine.....join and enjoy...pun on purpose!

                            another one.

Same model as the first one ( with a even/straight edge ), but in a more used condition. Red cross painted on only one side. No usual markings found (Patr. Kast. 41 fM). It has been treated with sort of vaseline by a previous collector to prevent further rusting. Still worth buying it!

All the originals (IMO), I buy without hesitation, if priced within limits offcourse...in the last few years I managed to get only 2

Sorry for the poor quality...wish I could take some decent close-ups, but my digcamera doesn't agree with me.

                            Cheers
