Gasmask and tin

Hi,
Just got this from the old collection that i keep getting things from,as i know nothing of gas masks please help,it was bought originally from Tobin's in London approx 1969 it appears to be in original condition has varying dates mask is dated 1938 ,filter dated 1940 and 1942 and whats the black painted number 725 for? the tin is dated 1943 ,on the bottom theirs a name Stellmacher ?is it the owners name.the carrying straps appear replaced.
Any help much appreaciated.

You say that tin is 43 marked ??? that would suggest that it was repainted after war maybe .. ?!?! or can is from civil - industrial gasmask - paint is to shiny for me ... ??
dates on filter - 42 should be expiration date..... number on gasmask - soldier's number - should be the same on canister.. - set is mismatched...

name on the bottom - nothing unusual - have one like that too...

My meaning about the the unit is it's a mix of "new and old" components, meaning a refurbished canister could be wartime with a kind of civilian straps very like the luftschutz a early gasmask M30 with the matching filter, is also the early type. Anyway original parts but not a "timeclock" if I can say so. I agree then with the first reply in all aspects.

I would go for a set who was a "timeclock" finding a canister with makers mark and year who fit the mask like a M30 up to 1938 and thereafter looking for a tree letter code canister and a rubber mask M38 with the rest of the gear matching.
I know a lot of mixing have been performed before, under and during and special after the war, but it's mainly our own idea about how the personel collection should look like! Most "gas" gear are just fine with almost no fakes, but a lot put together are around, Be aware for that.

Hi,

As i said the mask and tin came from Tobins London in 1969 and in those days i suppose odd masks and tins were put togeather or they my have always been that way the paint is in my opinion wartime,the strap is not period attached imo but nice to see a early mask and filter.

Hello,

the colour looks to me like a repaint done is CSSR after the war, where German gasmask were used. The type of carrying strap I have had once on a grey reprainted tin. Has the bottom of the tin with the name the same colour as the rest? Does the interior of the lid and the interior of the bottom of the tin have the same colour as the outside?

Hi,

Johannes,the inside of the tin is a darker duller green,the bottom is the same colour as the rest of the outside,it was my understanding that tins were repainted a different green during the war ?am i correct in that assumption.
