    Kriegsmarine Gasmask Canister. Grey?

Some people had some doubt about the grey colour. Opinions on this canister are welcome.
I think there is nothing wrong with it.

I was checking the name on the canister a little closer and now I see the name Hess also underneath the grey paint. It's very hard to get it on photo, but I will try.

        Hoi Maarten

It definately is a Kriegsmarine Cannister.... you only need a nice KM gasmask to go with it

If the paint is original or not, I really can't tell.... it was applied when the straps were attached however ...

I have heard/read here on WAF these cans are post war painted, offcourse I don't know a lot about it but I onces owned one of these cleaned it up and underneath there was luftwaffe blue.

I have also heard some of the cans are war-time painted for the kriegsmarine and for the use in afrika.

I hope this thread will give a good answer/conclusion on these gasmask canisters.

          greetings,

            greetings,
this particular gasmask canister is in my opinion 100% original grey paint painted . The color is diffrent from those postwar Dutch painted canisters ( those with tan underneath the grey - those were supposed to be exported to middle east countries and Egipt - the same thing is with tan painted helmets from czech republic which shown up at the beging of 90thies ).

In the late 80s I purchased a pile of German gas mask canisters from a ad in Shotgun Guns, these turned out to be the earlier configuration canisters, all dated 1936 or there abouts. They were all painted with the same color as this.
If these are KM, are there pictures to show them being carried? Since Coastal Artillery wore feldgrau uniforms, I would assume their canisters would also be the same as the Heer had.
There seems to be more "battleship grey" German items popping up lately than I had seen in the previous 25 years.
