Strange pair of gaiters

Hi to all,

Does anyone has ever seen a similar pair?
Odd construction, hook at the bottom, unknown marking..but correct
period material used.
Straight from the flea market for 5 euros...

i think early heer gaitors had the retaining hook, that fixed the laces and kept them in position. ive seen leather on both sides of the gaitor edge with these hook type pieces. but i havent seen just one edge in leather, like here, or the extra internal reinforcements like here...nice and slightly uunusual variant imo.

a long row of numbers, with a forward slash near the front=rbnr standard code for the factory that made it. rbnr suggests mid war onwards-as bombing of germany changed the axis confidence in clearly advertising the geographical location of its kit production sites to allied airforces.

it seems there is a letter and circle print before the number, so, you are right. the slash and numbers looked rbnr...but looking again. is that an rzm circle? surely not. so, not an rbnr afterall.
anyway, imo the first gaiters were leather rimmed around the whole gaiter....with hook. good quality, many man hours to make, well finshed.
then this one. hook but only one edge leather rim..still med. brilliant quality.
then the leather one edge rim and no hook...
then finally the non leather rimmed gaiters with the often tan leather straps...
these 'late war' gaiters seem to have been made in both standard heer canvas and a courser canvas more like the brit canvas-perhaps captured stocks were used too to make gamaschen???my instinct tells me yes.
imo this thread's gaitor is rarer than early war full leather rim type. with the very interesting extra leather reinforcement. (ive never seen this). so my advice is hang on to them, or realise a good price.
