K98 Ammo Pouch - RBNr 1/0750/0114 Inside Pouch w/Black Rivets - Opinions Please

Dug this out of one my footlockers when we moved. It is not one of those Russian imports with missing dividers, this one was pulled out of the woodwork years ago and has the dividers. I kept it for the same reason I am posting, it was not often encountered and never saw one marked inside the center pouch.

It's RBNr 1/0750/0114 marked inside the center pouch as shown and has black rivets at the points that are traditionally stitched.

What are your thoughts on where these were made? Since so many similar types wound up in Russian stocks, is it likely"1" would have been somewhere like Poland or Czechoslovakia?

Hello Jeff, IMO the first number of the code "1" doesn't mean a foreing fabrication, it was used to determinate the activity of the company, 0 and 1 were used for military manufacture companies.

The first section of 4 numbers indicates the code of the town, and 0750 was used for Stuttgart, even with the 1.

I agree with Eduardo. I believe a few years ago, the theory was that any RBN# not starting with a "0" was foreign made. That may still be a possibility for RBN# starting with a "9", but we have found items both RBN and maker marked which have somewhat helped to decipher the RBN code. It seems that the middle section of numbers lend themselves to towns or areas. Example 0250 is Berlin I believe.

Thanks Gents. I am most intrigued by the RBNr being on the inside of the center pouch and not on the reverse.

Harry, have you seen them marked other than on the reverse of the pouch between the belt loops?

Have not seen any stamped like this. I have seen unit numbers stamped on the inside in this spot, but not RBN numbers. Any one else seen this?

I've seen pictures of K98 pouches with this RBNr number both (separate pouches) impression stamped on the back and ink stamped to the middle lid. Espenlaub Militaria had one for sale like yours; http://aboutww2militaria.com/July2007/ammo_pouch3.htm

Hi Darek - Nice pouch. Interesting yours is standard sewn type, not riveted like mine.

I was interested in seeing if there was a link by having a K98 pouch stamped with a "1" inside the middle pouch and also manufactured using rivets instead of thread.

That is why I brought up the Russian one's that have dividers missing in them.
