Ink used on Canvas field gear

Does anybody know what type of ink was used for maker marks on canvas? I tried using a Sony digital camera with night vision to see the faded makers mark, but it would not show up. I have used this technique with U.S. field gear and have gotten beautiful results.

No idea what ink used - but when you wet the stamp, after I while you can read it much better, before it dries up again.

That was a special "Signiertinte" (sing/mark ink), only for military use!
