I have never seen a metal egg grenade box myself. I do have a wooden egg grenade box (missing the inside rack as usual) that I picked up at a flea market in Worms, Germany. I have seen a variety of egg grenade boxes at the Diekirch National Military Museum (Battle of the Bulge) in Diekirch, Luxembourg. Roland Gaul is the curator and he may be of assistance to you. He had a much bigger selection of German Munititon boxes than I. The website is: www.nat-military-museum.lu Tell him I referred you. Bill Petz

                  Egg Grenade Rack

                  Gary,

What is the date on the box. If it's an early type it would be for the Eier Grenate 39 without the ring. Is the other piece hinged, folds and locks to the other piece? The Wooden egg grenade box has a more simplified construction with the fuse box built into the box itself and the rack is a separate piece that sits inside of the box. I saw only the wooden box examples but I believe they had both types at the Diekirch Museum. I'm sure if you would attach an image to an email to the Museum and ask Rolan Gaul he will confirm your box. The Diekirch museum has a really nice and complete weapons/munitions room that has some really rare stuff to include a FG42. I love the dioramas they have done. I was privileged to help them out when I could for quite a few years and donated many a Battlefield find to the museum. Bill Petz

that type of rack with take both, the model 39 and the modified egg ,

Trying not to sound rude and not intending to be rude I only posted the rack as someone asked to see one I do not need to have it confirmed

                    cheers,
                    Gary

                              Hi Gary,

Just making a reference that if it has an early date then it was made for the early egg grenade. I do understand that many boxes were reused and thus could be used for the modified egg grenade. I may have used the wrong word in your case but was actually talking or making reference to the egg grenade box overall and a good site to check it out. So no offence taken. These forums/threads are where we discuss things and anything you list can be up for discussion...just like many of the items my friend lists for me on the forums. I share my photos with the knowledge that people will discuss the items listed. So again I take no offence and appreciate you listing the Egg grenade box. Bill
